Fiona Kirby

Homeroom Teacher

I started out in the corporate environment in HR and Public Relations. In 2003 I made the switch to education and spent my initial teaching years in Botswana. Being surrounded by a semi-desert environment, the town was an oasis for much of the wildlife which was the starting point for many inquiries which were integrated throughout the curriculum.  The move to Canada bought with it the challenges of change and I spent the first two years helping my family transition to life in Canada. While waiting for my OCT certification to be processed I trained in the Montessori teaching philosophy and taught in the field for some time. Three years ago, I arrived on Wildwood Academy’s doorstep. It is a continuing journey of discovery and enlightenment as I engage with and learn from students and colleagues. I consider myself a lifelong learner and I am always trying to learn something new which, when the opportunity presents itself, I transfer to students I work with in ways that are meaningful to them.
